Mid - IR period - magnitude relations for AGB stars
نویسنده
چکیده
Asymptotic Giant Branch variables are found to obey period-luminosity relations in the mid-IR similar to those seen atKS (2.14μm), even at 24μm where emission from circumstellar dust is expected to be dominant. Their loci in the M , logP diagrams are essentially the same for the LMC and for NGC6522 in spite of different ages and metallicities. There is no systematic trend of slope with wavelength. The offsets of the apparent magnitude vs. logP relations imply a difference between the two fields of 3.8 in distance modulus. The colours of the variables confirm that a principal period with log P > 1.75 is a necessary condition for detectable mass-loss. At the longest observed wavelength, 24μm, many semi-regular variables have dust shells comparable in luminosity to those around Miras. There is a clear bifurcation in LMC colourmagnitude diagrams involving 24μm magnitudes.

Infrared monitoring of OH/IR stars near the Galactic Center
We have monitored 102 fields of size 1′ × 1′ within ∼0.7◦ of the Galactic Center for 1200 days in the K band. Each field was centered on one of the OH/IR stars found by Lindqvist et al. (1992). Infrared colours J−K, H−K and K−L were also obtained. Periods have been determined for 80 known OH/IR stars, including 5 from Sjouwerman (1997), and a further 29 previously unknown long-period variables ...
متن کاملThe Cepheid Period-Luminosity Relation at Mid-Infrared Wavelengths: I. First-Epoch LMC Data
We present the first mid-infrared Period-Luminosity (PL) relations for Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) Cepheids. Single-epoch observations of 70 Cepheids were extracted from Spitzer IRAC observations at 3.6, 4.5, 5.8 and 8.0 μm, serendipitously obtained during the SAGE (Surveying the Agents of a Galaxy’s Evolution) imaging survey of the LMC. All four mid-infrared PL relations have nearly identical...
متن کاملA Spitzer/irs Spectrum of the 2008 Luminous Transient in Ngc 300: Connection to Proto-planetary Nebulae
We present a Spitzer/IRS low-resolution mid-infrared spectrum (5−14 μm) of the luminous transient discovered in the nearby galaxy NGC 300 in May 2008. This transient had peak luminosityMV ≃ −13, showed an optical spectrum dominated by relatively narrow Balmer and Ca II lines in emission, and its progenitor was identified in pre-explosion images as a dust-enshrouded ∼ 10 M⊙ star, characteristics...

This article presents the study of the light–curves extracted from the MACHO database of a sample of stars observed by the Infrared Space Observatory in the Small Magellanic Cloud. These stars belong to the ISO–Mini-Survey catalogue of the Magellanic Clouds (ISO–MCMS, Loup et al. in preparation). Most of them are in the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) and supergiant phases. The dominant period an...
